Eating Disorders

The most popularly recognized Eating Disorders are Anorexia (severely limiting intake of food), Bulimia (purging), and Compulsive Overeating (eating more than the body needs, usually resulting in obesity). There are also the phenomena of Binge Eating (feeling unable at times to stop eating), Night Eating Disorder (getting up in the middle of the night to eat, sometimes without fully waking), and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (perceiving oneself as looking fat - or ugly, or deformed when others see us as normal or extremely thin), among others.

Not all are recognized as mental disorders, but all involve the intersect among four factors: our dependence on eating for survival; the meaning that food has for each of us; our emotions; and our sense of Self. Because so much is involved in addressing Eating Disorders, including concern for medical complications and maintenance of physical health, the subject is a complicated one. Samantha's experience and training in the medical setting and in the field of Nutrition, combined with her skill in working with emotional issues and her interest in good health, qualify her to assess and address all these points of treatment.
